About Carino Law

Michele S. Carino is the founder and managing director of Carino Law. Prior to starting the firm, Michele practiced as a litigation attorney for nearly two decades, first at multi-national and Wall Street “big law” firms, and then at plaintiff-focused firms, such as Grant & Eisenhofer P.A. and Pomerantz LLP.

Michele has focused her practice on protecting the rights of individuals by daring to confront corporations and financial institutions via mediation, arbitration, litigation, and negotiation. She has litigated cases ranging from toxic torts to securities class action litigation in federal, state, and appellate courts throughout the United States, recovering millions of dollars in losses on behalf of victims of corporate misconduct, fraud, and abuse. Among other achievements, Michele played a leading role in securing settlements on behalf of investors in Mauss v. NuVasive, Inc., et al., Case No. 13-cv-02005-JM (S.D. Cal.) ($7.9 million settlement following successes on motions to dismiss, class certification, and summary judgment in action concerning defendants’ allegedly false statements related to compliance with healthcare fraud and abuse laws) (preliminary approval pending); Tapia-Matos v. Caesarstone Sdot-Yam, Ltd., et al., No. 15-CV-6726-JMF (S.D.N.Y.) ($2.2 million settlement after defeating defendants’ motion to dismiss); Robb v. Education Management Corp., et al., Case No. 2:14-cv-01287-DSC (W.D. Pa.) ($2.5 million settlement in connection with allegations that defendants mislead investors about compliance with Department of Education regulations). Michele was also instrumental in litigating In re Del Monte Foods Company Shareholders Litigation, Case No. 6027-VCL (Del. Ch.), a shareholder action that resulted in an $89.4 million settlement in connection with defendants’ attempts to sell the company to private equity investors without full disclosure to shareholders.

While her focus has been investor protection, her litigation record also includes significant victories on behalf of individuals and companies involved in partnership, employment, and other commercial disputes. No matter the size of the case or the client, Michele leverages her talents and abilities as an expert writer, negotiator, and litigator to ensure high-quality representation and the best possible outcome.

After many years of representing clients in both large and small cases, Michele is acutely aware that women especially are under-represented in lawsuits and often less likely to speak up when they have been harmed – even where they are the targets of misleading advertising and dangerous products. As part of the movement to ensure that ALL victims have equal access to the legal system, Michele has recently expanded her practice to advance claims on behalf of victims harmed by medical devices, pharmaceuticals, and other products, including Essure, Taxotere, and hernia mesh. Her goal, as always, is to champion the rights of the individual and hold corporations accountable for their malfeasance. Michele has also begun representing victims of sexual harassment and abuse.
